DC Heat Pump Rebates Extended: Save on Heating, Cooling, and Water Heating In 2026

Good news for DC homeowners considering energy-efficient upgrades: DCSEU rebates for heat pumps and heat pump water heaters have been extended through September 30, 2026.

That means there is still time to take advantage of thousands of dollars in incentives for upgrading to high-efficiency electric systems that improve comfort, reduce energy bills, and lower your home’s carbon footprint. Depending on the upgrade, homeowners may qualify for rebates ranging from $250 to $5,000.

DCSEU Rebates for Heat Pumps

Heat pumps are one of the largest incentives offered through the DCSEU program because they provide both heating and cooling using electricity, often with significantly higher efficiency than traditional HVAC systems.

Available rebates may include:

  • $1,000–$1,500 for high-efficiency electric heat pumps

  • Up to $4,000 for converting from gas heating to electric heat pumps

  • Up to $5,000 for ENERGY STAR® Most Efficient systems

DCSEU Rebates for Heat Pump Water Heaters

Water heating is another major source of home energy use, and DCSEU offers strong incentives to upgrade to more efficient systems. Heat pump water heaters pull heat from the surrounding air to warm water, making them far more efficient than traditional electric resistance models.

Homeowners may qualify for rebates of up to $1,600 when installing a qualifying heat pump water heater.

Key Eligibility Requirements

To qualify for DCSEU rebates, homeowners should keep the following in mind:

  • Equipment must be purchased new and installed by a licensed contractor between October 1, 2025 and September 30, 2026.

  • Some larger incentives — particularly those involving electrification or whole-home upgrades — may also require working with a DCSEU participating contractor or completing a Home Energy Assessment.

Full eligibility details can be found here.

Additional Utility Rebates in the Region

Depending on your location and electric utility provider, additional rebates may also be available through programs offered by BGE, Pepco, and Delmarva Power.

These programs may offer incentives such as:

  • Up to $100 for smart thermostats

  • Up to $1,600 for heat pump water heaters

  • Around $50 discounts for ENERGY STAR® dehumidifiers

Why These Rebates Matter

Heating, cooling, and water heating typically account for the largest portion of a home’s energy use. Upgrading to efficient electric systems like heat pumps can significantly reduce energy costs while improving comfort and indoor air quality.

With DCSEU rebates now extended through September 30, 2026, homeowners still have time to take advantage of these incentives before programs change.
